of November last, I have the honour to transmit to you

herewith copy of the Hote which I have adressed to the

Chinese Government, in accordance with your instructions,

respecting the attack on the British Steamer “Tai On".

I have sent a copy of this Hote and of your des-

patch under reply, to His Excellency the Governor of

Hongkong.
